Here's to everything I thought I knew...

Here are 10 helpful tips for your study abroad experience.

 

1. Find the currency exchangers who advertise “No Fees”.

2. Purchase Visas more than 2 weeks in advance, regardless of how fast the websites promise to process your forms.

3. File the paperwork to receive your Concession Card, and save on transportation, events, and even food!

4. Buy one of the passport wallets that hold all your information in one place.

5. You have multiple options for cellular coverage. Vodaphone the most expensive. I chose to use Optus. According to the Australians, Vodaphone is the only way to get coverage on interstate trains and outside of the cities and suburbs. I found Optus to be competent, except for during my diving trip and while on the train from Melbourne to Sydney. Please keep in mind that unless you plan on renting a Ute and exploring the outback, Optus will be enough.

a. You may find an E-Sim to be the most efficient purchasing experience.

6. Bondi Beach is nice, but it has the same density of visitors as Waikiki. The Australians know this.

7. Be careful who you consume alcohol around.

8. Take care of those who have had too much to drink.

a. The number of standard drinks per can or bottle is printed on the outside of every Australian made alcoholic beverage. Track your blood alcohol content over time.

9. If your preferred deodorant is not a Dove product, please remember to buy extra before you leave.

10. Recreational use of tobacco is banned, regardless of your age.
